Growing up as an adoptee from China I never really knew much about my culture. I thought authentic Chinese food was almond boneless chicken and Panda Express. I attempted to take Chinese in my sophomore year of high school. Keyword attempted. Though I did not stick with the language I realized how much I was missing from my culture. Culture is a part of what makes a person who they are. My parents tried to include that part of my life into my childhood. Our family friends had an adoptee as well. Together we went to Chinese New Year parties with dozens of other adopted Chinese kids. Every year in October we celebrate the day I was adopted with gifts they bought in china. All of these were fantastic and well appreciated. Yet, now being older I feel so far away from those in the community. By not going to Chinese school, taking piano, or taking a thousand APs they all make a difference. I decided to make an executive decision that I will learn as much as I can.
